Baratuwa Ba Morena choir is a St James Catholic Apostolic Church of Southern Africa choir under the leadership of Oversee Joseph Dhlamini which started in the early 2000.

Due to the legacy of apartheid, a large proportion of our young people were subjected to poor living conditions, which in turn resulted in a wide range of other social problems. Rampant unemployment, a high school dropout rate, child and substance abuse, HIV and AIDS pandemic, overcrowding in run down dwellings and lack of development both socially and psychologically has become the norm for many of these young people.

We are of the view that there are only two approaches to deal with this crisis, i.e. preventative and/or curative, which we feel of the utmost importance if we want to turn the situation around.

Baratuwa Ba Morena Junior Choir was established from Baratuwa Ba Morena Choir. Ubuhle Bunathi Gospel Singers was established from Baratuwa Ba Morena Junior Choir.

To create an enabling environment where the youth are totally integrated to ensure a holistic and sustainable youth development conscious of the historically imbalances and the current realities faced by young people in general
To facilitate the development of young people to reach their social, economic and political maturity and to be accountable for their actions in a responsible manner, which will ensure a better life for all.
To build and instill discipline to the youth of Kliptown and surrounding areas
To motivate and facilitate improvement of Arts and Culture to the youth on social responsibility and accountability

To rekindle an interest and appreciation of the arts and participation in culture and religion activities.
To provide training in business skills and entrepreneurial development and build a religious society for the youth of Kliptown which will enable them to compete on an equal footing with youth from other areas and background in the labour market.
To enjoy Gospel music and have fun in changing the lives of people of Kliptown with our message from our songs.
To build a relationship with our fellow members and understanding different cultural backgrounds.
To facilitate the smooth transition of our youth into formal employment, self-employment initiatives and community-based projects in response to the country’s social and economic needs.

The enlistment of youth (those aged 12 to 28) comprise about 57 % of the total population, unemployed people tend to be poor and young most of the unemployed live in a household with a monthly income of less than R800 a month. Youth unemployment is highest in the 18 to 29 age group.
Youth comprise about 70 % of the unemployed, 46 % of the working population and 59 % of the self-employed. Vul’amasango means, “Open the gates” thus a driving force of Baratuwa Ba Morena choir which is under the St James Catholic Apostolic Church of Southern Africa is to give access to opportunities for unemployed youth and the community at large.
To develop the saleable skills of people in training concepts, needs and marketed to imperative that a network be established between the youth and to enhance the progress of development in our town.
